Authentic Italian pizzas and pasta dishes are on offer in the heart of south London at the Sun Café which lies between Camberwell and Peckham.

Based in the Thames Reach Employment Academy on Havil Street, the café’s food is prepared by Chef Ubaldo Perisichini who hails from Battipaglia in Southern Italy.

Ubaldo prides himself on cooking in a traditional Italian style. He said: “Our pizzas’ are made in the traditional way – slow cooked and full of flavour. The dough is prepared 24 hours beforehand, using natural yeast which helps give them a rich light texture.”

Ubaldo has taught at the Italian Pizza Academy, which trains people world-wide, and he still holds lessons at the Sun Cafe most afternoons. However he is keen to credit his family for his culinary skills – both his grandfather and mother were chefs.

The café, which opened its doors in 2014, offers a friendly service, free wifi, and a menu that includes salads, pasta dishes, pizzas, burgers, soft drinks, coffees, beers and Italian wines, at very reasonable prices. A take away service is also available.
