A new service that helps parents find work in the childcare sector has been launched at the Thames Reach Employment Academy.

The Romain Inspired Education service offers parents the opportunity to develop their skills and get the training necessary to work in nurseries and primary schools. The service runs across Southwark and Lambeth in settings that suit parents.

The service also helps parents who want to learn more about supporting the development of their own children, and offers workshops and training on healthy eating, family numeracy and literacy and IT.

Lisa Russell is the manager of Romain Inspired Education. She said: “Our aim is to support parents back into work in a setting that suits them.

“It’s often a struggle to balance work and family life and we help people to achieve that balance.

“We mainly work with mothers, but we have just started a session aimed directly at fathers who are interested in working in childcare.

“The name of the service is from my own mother’s maiden name, Romain. She is a real inspiration to me and has helped shape who I am and my passion to learn.”
