Creative workshops announced for annual Festival of Learning

22 May 2017

The Employment Academy is running a week-long series of creative workshops in early July as part of its annual Festival of Learning.

The event, now in its third year, is open to the public and encourages adult learners to try out new activities and potentially learn new skills.

Workshops include: bike maintenance, creative writing, knitting, painting, stenciling, and sign language.

A mindfulness workshop will be led by Thames Reach partners South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, while a session entitled ‘learning through music’ will be delivered by Sunshine Fruits Montessori Nursery.

The week will also feature two live theatrical performances, performed by See & Eye Theatre, a young person’s theatre company comprised of students from City and Islington College. It has been written and produced in association with St Gabriel’s Knife Crime Project, a scheme run by a church in the borough of Islington.

The Festival of Learning runs from Monday July 10 to Friday July 14 at the Employment Academy at 29 Peckham Road, Camberwell, London SE5 8UA.

The event will conclude with a summer celebration on Friday afternoon, from 4pm-7pm. There will be food, music, stalls and an award ceremony to honour the achievements of Thames Reach service users and volunteers.

Virginia Croft, Thames Reach’s skills programme developer, said: “The theme for this year’s Festival of Learning is ‘Have a Go’ – so why not do just that.

“We have lots of exciting workshops running in July, and they’re all free. Challenge yourself to try something new.”
