08 October 2014

A new reading group aimed at helping people to develop their confidence and social skills through shared reading is being launched at the Thames Reach Employment Academy.

The Shared Reading Group offers Thames Reach service users and local residents the chance to come along and listen to readings of stories and poetry in a relaxed, informal setting.

People are encouraged to attend and get involved, whatever their reading ability. Anyone can participate, even if they are not a strong reader and there’s no pressure to talk or to read as everything is read aloud.

The service is run by Thames Reach in partnership with The Reader, a social enterprise that aims to connect people through shared reading.

Thames Reach skills programme developer, Virginia Croft, said: “The reading group offers people a license to day dream, an hour off from reality. We also have biscuits!”

The weekly sessions launch on Friday 17th October and then take place every Friday, 10.30am – 12pm at the Employment Academy, 29 Peckham Road, London SE5 8UA. For more information about the group, please contact Thames Reach’s Employment and Resettlement team on 0203 691 5111.
