A new service dedicated to helping women in Southwark get back into work has been launched at Thames Reach’s Employment Academy.

Leap into Work supports women who face barriers to finding employment – they may have a child and therefore can’t work standard hours, might lack work experience in the area of work they’re interested in pursuing or they don’t feel confident about the process of applying for jobs after a long time out of work.

The service works with women on a one-to-one basis, finds out what they want to do and then explores the different options and routes that are available to them.

Women who are then ready to start looking for work can take workshops covering IT skills, CV preparation, job application techniques and preparing for work.

Leap into Work works directly with employers to help women into job roles within the borough of Southwark.

The service is helping women into a range of work and training opportunities;  as teaching assistants, carers for the ill and elderly, childminders – or setting up their own businesses.

Yvonna Ryszkowska, who manages the Leap into Work service, said: “After hearing about the Employment Academy I came to visit the building and was very impressed by the bright, open space. My clients really enjoy coming here – it’s easy to access and offers a warm and friendly environment.

“The work we are doing is vital and we are committed to helping the women we work with to move forward with their lives and to achieve their goals.”
