The Thames Reach Employment Academy has appointed its first full-time member of staff to develop strong links with the local community and ensure everything runs smoothly at the £6.5m project, opening later this autumn.

Anneke Ziemen, the new Employment Academy facilities and marketing manager, will be the first point of contact for local community groups, businesses and potential partners hoping to become part of this project helping long-term unemployed and formerly homeless people find work.

She will coordinate bookings on the self contained offices and shared office spaces, the training and meeting rooms and the large new events space.

A 50 per cent discount will be available for community groups from Lambeth and Southwark who book any of these facilities and a 25 per cent discount will be on offer to groups from the other 31 London boroughs.

The new event space will come with state-of-the-art audio visual equipment and Thames Reach is applying for a wedding licence for the space in the restored Edwardian wood panelled room.

Anneke Ziemen, said: “I want to ensure we get a good mixture of organisations and services set up in the new Employment Academy, making it a vibrant place where the long-term unemployed can increase their skills and employability through learning, training, volunteering and employment opportunities.

“It will be a resource for the whole community providing a range of employment services under one roof in a £6.15million project spread over 20,000 square feet – I look forward to meeting people whether they want to book a room or hire a desk, or come on board to provide employment related services.”
