Thames Reach has teamed up with a charity dedicated to promoting responsible business practice to run a scheme helping formerly homeless people prepare for a return to work by boosting their skills and self-confidence.

Get Ready! will be based at the Employment Academy in Camberwell which is due to open this Autumn and the scheme will be run in a partnership involving Thames Reach’s Employment and Resettlement Team and Business Action on Homelessness.

Get Ready! helps people to prepare for work through a mix of workshops, focusing on skills such as effective communication, financial awareness and team working, and work ‘taster’ days at a range of businesses, including retail and banking organisations.

The workshops and taster sessions help people understand how businesses recruit staff and what they look for in a potential employee.

Business Action on Homelessness is a part of Business in the Community, a charity dedicated to promoting responsible business practice.

Employment Academy Development Manager Monica Geraghty said: “We’ve already seen some great success stories come out of the Get Ready! scheme. The mix of workshops and work taster days work really well for people and we’re really excited about the project running at Employment Academy.”
