The iconic Olympic torch made its way through Camberwell yesterday, passing Thames Reach’s flagship Employment Academy which will open later this year and help hundreds of local residents and formerly homeless people to find work.

As the world’s largest global sporting event begins, south London enjoyed its moment in the spotlight as the Olympic torch passed through Wandsworth, Lambeth and Southwark.

Local resident and Guerrilla Gardening founder Richard Reynolds was nominated to carry the torch through Camberwell and thousands of local people turned out to cheer the torch as it made its way through the area.

Employment Academy Development Manager Monica Geraghty said: "It was fantastic to see so many local people out to celebrate the Olympic torch passing through Camberwell. There was a real carnival atmosphere on the streets and lots of people were asking about the Employment Academy building and what will be happening there when it opens this autumn."
