Service supporting people into work sets up at Employment Academy

The Employment Academy has recently become home to a service helping people with learning difficulties find and retain suitable work.

Toucan Employment began operating from the site in September of this year, becoming the sixth organisation to be currently based in the building.

The longest running charity of its kind in the UK, Toucan has been operating since 1989 across the boroughs of Southwark, Lambeth, Lewisham and Brent.

It helps service users with a broad range of support needs to build CVs, and access the right help in finding and remaining in appropriate, supported employment.

Toucan Employment has moved, in part, to take advantage of working with various other organisations based at the Employment Academy.

Toucan has been able to refer clients across to the Southwark Wellbeing Hub, and to Leonard Cheshire Disability for more specialist help, which has been of great benefit to clients.

New clients have been secured through Employment Academy events, including at October’s job fair.

Alex Margolies, CEO of Toucan Employment, said: “Toucan is key in meeting the needs of people who require that little bit of extra support getting into employment. Moving into the Employment Academy offers a great opportunity to work with different organisations and better meet these needs.”
