Twenty two graduate from latest Work Ready Programme

26 September 2016

Last week saw another successful Work Ready Programme take place at the Thames Reach Employment Academy, with 22 people graduating from the course.

The Work Ready Programme, now in its third year, is developed and run in partnership with management consultancy firm McKinsey & Company, and helps participants who’ve been out of work for a long time to build confidence and acquire skills they are likely to need in employment.

Volunteers from Guys and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust helped to deliver the week-long course alongside staff from Thames Reach and McKinsey, and will also be providing the ongoing mentoring service for graduates that follows each programme.

The course started with a weekend away at a residential centre in the Chilterns, offering a range of activities including football, rugby, art classes and yoga.

The participants then spent the rest of the week taking part in workshops based at the Employment Academy in Camberwell. This included a CV writing class led by accountancy firm Ecovis, as well as a choice of practical sessions, ranging from barista skills to first aid training to a food hygiene course.

There were also visits to places of work, including the McKinsey offices and St Thomas’ Hospital, followed by IT and personal budgeting workshops.

The week was rounded off by a job fair and a graduation ceremony.

Rosie Crawley, lead worker for the Work Ready Programme, said: “I couldn’t be prouder of all 22 graduates, they got stuck in to everything and were a real pleasure to get to know.

“I have high hopes that, with the help of their fantastic mentors, every participant will be able to reach their goal.”
